Introduction
The cumulative antibiogram report presented in this online interactive tool includes yearly antibiogram information for the following sites:
- Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH)
- Grey Nuns Community Hospital (GNH)
- Misericordia Community Hospital (MIS)
- Community Hospitals (includes Devon, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, Redwater, Sturgeon, Westview) & Glenrose Rehabilitation
Hospital (GRH)
- Long Term Care
- Community [including Northeast Community Health Centre (NECHC)]
- North Zone: Fort McMurray Hospital, Westlock Healthcare Centre/ Community / LTC
- Central Zone (Wainwright, Vegreville, Vermilion)
- Cypress Health Region (Saskatchewan)
This report is meant to be used as a local guide for best empiric antimicrobial therapeutic choice.
Empiric use of an antibiotic is recommended only if ≥ 95% of isolates for a given organism test susceptible to that antibiotic. This threshold, however, may not always be practical. ≥ 90% susceptible rate may at times be considered as an acceptable threshold in organisms known to exhibit multiple antimicrobial drug resistance.
These tables do not include every organism that could be encountered. Only the more common clinical pathogens are included.
Data is presented only for those organism–antimicrobial agent combinations with ≥ 30 isolates.
All duplicate isolates have been excluded.
The plans for this Online Interactive Antibiogram Tool project are as follows:
PHASE 1 (completed):
- Design an online interactive tool for the Annual Cumulative Antibiogram Reports and
- Include more antimicrobial agents in the report that are appropriate for empirical therapeutic use.
